Having relevant informations available about livestock is essential for being able to make good decisions in time and act accordingly to increase the profitability of a sheep farm.
The stakeholders of AgIntel are developing an animal tracking device to constantly monitor the health of individual sheep. It is specifically designed to work on large Australian farms. The device is maintenance free and will track the sheep 24 hours per day throughout their entire live time.
In case of an identified health issue, the tracking device can determine the location of the sheep and send the relevant information to the mobile phone or computer of the responsible farm manager.
The tracking device is equipped with sensors, a low power computer, short range and long range radios, memory and a LED so that a specific sheep can easily be located and identified.
The system is currently tested in Austria and will be field tested in Australia in 2020.
The goal is to mass manufacture the animal tracker so that it will be economically feasible to outfit every sheep with a health tracker.
